James W. Jacobson, Ph.D.
Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Jacobson has over 20 years of experience in research, development and commercialization of a broad range of research and medical products. He was at Luminex Corporation in Austin, Texas for 10 years in a variety of positions including Chief Scientific Officer where he founded and chaired the Luminex Scientific Advisory Board, directed external research collaborations with academic and industry thought leaders, established an external content licensing program and directed strategic initiatives in personalized medicine and biomarker development. As Vice President of Research and Development at Luminex, Dr. Jacobson directed the integrated research and development activities of more than 80 engineers, chemists and biologists resulting in the development and commercial release of hardware, software and consumable products in research and clinical markets. As Vice President of Technical Operations, he established world-wide field service, training and support for Luminex products. Before joining Luminex, Dr. Jacobson directed high-complexity CLIA certified laboratories in Houston, Texas for 4 years. At SpectraCell Laboratories, Virus Reference Laboratories and Cytastar Laboratories, he directed all clinical laboratory operations including quality, regulatory compliance, certification, research,development and implementation for flow cytometry, immunology, microbiology, virology and molecular diagnostics. Dr. Jacobson was also a faculty member in the Department of Biology at the University of Houston for 7 years and is the author of publications in genetics, molecular biology and laboratory science.

Dr. Jacobson has a Ph.D. in Population Biology (Genetics) from Washington University in Saint Louis where he was a National Institute of Health Pre-Doctoral Trainee. He completed postdoctoral training at North Carolina State University, where he was a National Institute of Health Post-Doctoral Trainee, and at Duke University. Dr. Jacobson holds M.S. and B.S. degrees in Biology from Utah State University.
